Believe it or not, mostly everyone has experienced something at one time or another, a brief moment where they have tried to style or cut their own hair or cut someone else’s hair. Cutting hair is a universal skill that could be used literally ALL in the world, especially if you know how to cut all textures of hair.
I am a licensed Master Barber with over 23 years of barbering experience. I am very thankful for discovering the craft and I am very excited to be able to share with everyone the proper information regarding how to become a barber. First of all, you have to ask yourself:
“Why do you need to be a barber?” Needed to become a barber for the independence, flexibility, the people you meet, the income, the diversity and more. The reason I say ask yourself this question is must be lot of people THINK they want to become barbers and then everything doesn’t happen like they thought they would and chances are they’ll want to stop and start pursuing other ventures. That are used for wanting to become a barber has to be so strong enough that you won’t let any connected with negativity or doubt get your mind and hold you back from becoming a barber.
After get figured the “why”, step two is find out a school or local barbershop a great apprenticeship program. If you choose to to school, you will earn your license by attending school for 9 months to 2 years. The amount time it requires for you to finish school depends on if you visit to school full time or part-time. Once you have completed your hours and passed the exam, THE WORLD IS One!!
If training machines . an apprenticeship, make sure it is an established barbershop location so that you is definitely not wasting your time. The person you’re employed under must be the owner. The owner probably won’t bail out on you sooner. Barber employees come and go too frequently to risk an apprenticeship under one. If you work your owner, your chances might become a little bit greater for success as a student. I was lucky and worked under a stable barber. But he too eventually left the shop, but not before I finished software.
Apprenticeship programs are never free. Sometimes the barber you work under may charge basically weekly fine. After all, he paid for license likewise. Make sure the fee is fair. $25-$50 a week. Also ensure you keep copies of your own personal transcripts should the Master Barber starts to have a change of heart in order to jealousy. Sometimes when your clientele actually starts to pick up or your talent start to obtain better, the actual Barber will get a little envious. So be careful and not try too in order to outshine the actual! HA HA HA!!!!!!
Starting out, commission is a good until 100 % possible build up a clientele. Commission is when the owner gets a split on every haircut that you cut. For example, if the haircut is $10, and the split is 60/40. He will get $4.00 (40%) and you will get $6.00 (60%). Can be great an individual will be just starting out and you’re to have a clientele. Now once your split to your owner passes $200 a week (50 haircuts a week),you need to request booth rental. At 50 haircuts a week on a 60/40 split, the owner makes $200(less products) and you make $300. But don’t forget, if you are on commission, the owner is meant to supply you with most of your reserves. But it comes a part of commission structure when widely recognized it is not worth paying more than $300-$500 1 week in rates.
Commissions keeps a barber related to the hip of the owner. Booth rental is an awful lot smoother. Most of the time, when you pay to your booth, you decide to work when you wish to as long as you meet your weekly booth rental quota and there it is. Booth rent should commence lower and increase over the 3-6 month period. An easily affordable booth rental starting out is $100.00 week. Some shops charge as up to $300.00 7 days. You can make $2,000 a week and only have to pay $150.00 to $300.00 a week, and consider home about $1,500 to $1,700 and that’s it. If you make $2,000 1 week on a commission structure, you keep 60% that’s about $1,000 to $1,200.
When entering into a new shop, you shouldn’t be over ready. You have to make positive that the shop will surely be a good fit for as well as where you might be to go. Some barbers prefer to cut white hair, some barbers prefer to cut black hair, and some barbers want diversity. But at no more the day, that just what is so excellent about our barber discipline!! However you choose to pursue it, means that up for you. I LOVE IT!!
Unless you want to be working for a large corporation, do not own high expectations as far as the structure of most barbershops. You’ll find a great barbershop maybe 1 associated with 50. When i say great, However it the lease is paid on time, the light bill is paid on time, the water is hot, the heat and a/c works, the owner is not sparatically increasing booth rental, you have supplies to sell for extra income, health plan, customer service, nice decor, clean atmosphere and anything else that is a benefit. I just gave an example of maybe 1 shop the 50 that structured in which.
